Correlation is not causation. They haven’t done the studies to prove that it’s sugar (vs. anything else) that is causing obesity, cancer, etc.
The reason why this is important is that we can’t solve problems if we latch onto easy answers and decide that’s the problem without doing the work. Without doing the work, it’s too likely to latch onto a wrong answer and cause new problems just as bad as the ones we’re trying to solve. Like when someone decided eating fat caused heart disease and now we have a world full of rising obesity rates because we all started eating more carbs in place of the supposedly evil fats that it turns out there is no evidence actually cause heart disease at all.
